Desk: An increasing news has emerged amidst increasing cases of corona virus. French epidemiologist says that if the weight of people infected with the corona virus is more than necessary, then this epidemic can put their lives in danger.

Professor Jean Delphresi, who advises the government on the epidemic, says that 25 percent of French people are at serious risk of spreading the virus due to age, past diseases and obesity.

Delphrasi says that people in the US are at greater risk of corona due to rising levels of obesity, currently 42.4 percent of US adults are severely obese.

Delphrasi told Francinfo Radio, ‘This virus is terrible. It can easily prey on the youth, especially the obese youth. People who are overweight need to be very careful.

He said, ‘This is why we are worried about our friends in America. Everyone knows the problem of obesity there and people are going to face more problems due to obesity.

Experts say that obesity can put America at risk of an epidemic like the Spanish flu of 1918. According to the CDC, 42.4 percent of the US adult population and 18.5 percent of children are obese.

Obesity leads to many diseases in the body, including type 2 diabetes, stroke, heart attack and cancer.

Experts have warned that this proportion of obese adults is increasing. This rising rate of obesity will not only increase the cost of health care but may also lead to corona virus epidemic or any other epidemic in future.

A 2009 H1N1 flu pandemic study found that obese people had twice the number of hospitalizations compared to the state’s total population.

This means that overweight people getting infected with COVID-19 may put more pressure on hospitals.

In addition, a recent study by the Michigan School of Public Health found that obese people infected with the flu not only have to go through many serious problems but also remain contagious for a long time.

Obesity is closely related to the flu. Over 75 percent of US adults are estimated to be overweight or obese by 2030 and because of this, flu or coronavirus can cause thousands of lives.

However, it is not yet clear why obese people are more contagious. Scientists believe that obesity changes the immune response which causes inflammation in the body.

In New Orleans, people who died from COVID-19 have a higher number of obese people than the common people. At the same time, the Louisiana Department of Health says that 97 percent of the patients who died from COVID-19 had some disease before.

The risk of spreading corona virus in New Orleans is high as 39 percent of the people here have high blood pressure, 36 percent obesity and 19 percent people have diabetes.
