New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern introduced Thursday she’s going to resign next month.

“For me it’s time,” she said at a meeting of members of her Labour Party. “I just don’t have enough in the tank for another four years.”

Ardern, who grew to become prime minister in a coalition authorities in 2017, then led her centre-left Labour Party to a complete victory in an election three years later, has seen her celebration and private recognition drop in current polls.

In her first public look since parliament went into its summer season recess a month in the past, she informed Labour’s annual caucus retreat that throughout the break she had hoped to discover the power to proceed as chief, “however I’ve not been in a position to try this”.

Ardern said the next general election will be held on Saturday, October 14 and she would continue as an electorate MP until then.
