A 41-year-old Indian-origin man has been arrested in the US on suspicion of tried homicide and baby abuse after he deliberately drove a Tesla off a cliff along with his spouse and two kids inside, in accordance to media stories.

Dharmesh A Patel of Pasadena, California, might be booked into San Mateo County Jail after he’s launched from a hospital, the freeway patrol mentioned in an announcement.

Patel, his spouse and kids survived and had been rescued on Monday at Devil’s Slide in San Mateo County, the California Highway Patrol mentioned.

The rescue concerned firefighters who rappelled down the cliff to save the 2 kids, a 4-year-old lady, and a 9-year-old boy. A helicopter crew rescued the 2 adults from the automobile, NBC News, an American broadcast tv community, mentioned.

The rescue was described as nearly miraculous, The New York Times newspaper mentioned.

The Tesla was 250 to 300 ft down, in accordance to the freeway patrol.

“Based on the evidence collected, investigators developed probable cause to believe this incident was an intentional act,” it mentioned in an announcement.

Brian Pottenger, the incident commander for the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, mentioned witnesses referred to as 911 after the crash.

He mentioned that it was “very, very rare” for individuals to survive such a steep fall and that the kids’s automobile seats could have saved their lives.

“We were actually very shocked when we found survivable victims in the vehicle. So that actually was a hopeful moment for us,” Pottenger mentioned.

The kids had average accidents, Pottenger mentioned.

Authorities plan to guide Patel on three counts of tried homicide and two counts of kid abuse, mentioned Officer Andrew Barclay, a spokesman for the freeway patrol’s Golden Gate Division.
