Portuguese authorities are evaluating whether or not surveillance cameras not too long ago put in across the Chinese embassy in Lisbon are authorized after native residents raised privateness considerations.

Three massive 360-degrees surveillance cameras encompass the embassy. The cameras had been put in round two months in the past, a resident who wished to stay nameless informed Reuters.

The British government told its departments in November to stop installing Hikvision or other Chinese-linked surveillance cameras at sensitive buildings, citing security risks.

A resident, who lives across the road from the embassy, described the situation as a “blatant violation of privacy”.

The Portuguese overseas ministry informed Reuters on Wednesday it had requested the related authorities to look into the matter.
