Karnataka: A mob of hardline rioters dragged the man out of his house, beat him up with a knife, after a man raised his WhatsApp status against the hijab in Malebennur town of Karnataka’s Davanagere district on Wednesday.

The ongoing hijab controversy in Karnataka has now turned violent. The riotous thinking of Islamic extremists has also started coming to the fore. In the Malebennur town of Karnataka’s Davangere district, a man applying WhatsApp status against the hijab was irked by radical Muslims. A mob of radical rioters dragged the man out of his house, beat him up and stabbed him.

According to a report, the name of the victim Hindu man is Dilip Malagimane. He runs a store near Gigali circle in Malebennur city. On Wednesday, a mob of over 300 Muslim rioters came to his shop, dragged him out of the store for supporting the hijab ban, and brutally thrashed him with knives. Meanwhile, when the police came forward to save the Hindu man, the hysterical Muslims did not even spare the police officers and beat them up as well. After this incident, the police registered a case in this case and arrested some rioters and issued prohibitory orders in Harihar taluka including Malebennur till Friday midnight.

Another similar incident happened in Nallur village of Davangere district also. Naveen (25), a resident of Nallur village, shared a social media post on the hijab controversy that left Islamic fundamentalists fuming and a mob of extremists attacked Naveen and his 60-year-old mother Sarojamma and ransacked their house. After which the mother and son have been admitted to a hospital in critically injured condition. The situation in the village is tense after the incident. At the same time, the local MLA and police officials have visited the village and appealed to the people to maintain peace.

Radical Muslims also vandalized police vehicles. Since then the situation became tense. However, later some leaders appealed to the crowd to return. But, the Muslim mob did not stop the protest, instead the mob pelted stones at the police station, in which police vehicles were also damaged. The mob of rioters was continuously demanding from the police to hand over the accused to them. At the same time, on this whole incident, Deputy SP Basavaraj of the district has asked people not to take law in their hands and take action against those who break the law. In view of the situation, a team of security forces has been deployed.
