The Netherlands completed unbeaten in Group C with 9 factors from three wins. Malaysia upset the higher-ranked New Zealand 3-2 in one other Pool C match to end second within the standings with six factors from two wins

World No. 3 Netherlands on Thursday grew to become the primary group to qualify for the quarterfinals of the FIH Odisha Hockey Men’s Hockey World Cup 2023, finishing their league engagements with a 14-Zero thrashing of Chile on the Kalinga Stadium.

The Netherlands, the three-time winners of the Men’s World Cup, completed unbeaten in Group C with 9 factors from three wins. Malaysia upset the higher-ranked New Zealand 3-2 in one other Pool C match to end second within the standings with six factors from two wins. New Zealand, ranked ninth — two spots forward of Malaysia, ended third with three factors as Chile completed with zero factors after three defeats.

The Netherlands thus sealed a direct berth within the quarterfinals whereas Malaysia and New Zealand will undergo the crossover matches.

Having defeated Malaysia and New Zealand of their earlier matches, the Netherlands rode on a hat-trick of objectives by drag-flicker Jip Janssen, who scored 4 objectives in all, and Thierry Brinkman and a brace of objectives by Bijen Koen to safe the most important win of the event to this point.

Janssen opened the scoring within the sixth minute off their first penalty nook after which added objectives within the 29th minute, 34th min and 44th minutes because the Dutch scored at will towards Chile, who have been completely outclassed and overwhelmed by their opponents.

Brinkman scored his first purpose within the 25th minute and added two extra within the 33rd and fifth min, off a penalty nook, to full his triple. Bijen struck within the 40th and 45th minute because the Netherlands fully dominated the match.

Derck De Vilder (22nd in), Thijs Van Dam (23rd min), Terrance Pieters (37th min), Justen Blok (42nd min) and Teun Beins (58th min) contributed a purpose every to the Netherlands’ rating.

The Dutch nearly parked themselves in Chile’s half of the turf and earned 17 penalty corners in all, of which they transformed six.

In the ultimate quarter, Chile managed to make some good assaults and bagged two penalty corners however couldn’t capitalise on them.
