Matteo Guendouzi scored the one aim as Marseille defeated Rennes 1-Zero within the French Cup

Marseille racked up their eighth successive win on Friday when a 1-Zero victory over Rennes gave them a spot within the French Cup final 16.

Midfielder Matteo Guendouzi scored the one aim of the sport within the 59th minute following good work by Jordan Veretout.

Marseille haven’t gained the French Cup since 1989.

However, they had been roared to victory on the Stade Velodrome by a 57,000-strong crowd towards a Rennes aspect who surprised Paris Saint-Germain in Ligue 1 final weekend.

“It’s a unique victory to the others as a result of we had been in a knockout sport,” said Marseille coach Igor Tudor.

“The players were very motivated and they interpreted the game very well, against a good team.”
