With an purpose to hold out logistic operations in the Himalayan frontier, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has developed an untethered multi-copter payload, an unmanned aerial car (UAV), able to flying with a 5 kg payload and even dropping bombs in enemy territories, an official mentioned.

The multi-copter was displayed by the DRDO on the 108th Indian Science Congress in Maharashtra’s Nagpur.

Successful trials of the multi-copter have been performed at Sikkim at an altitude of 14,000 ft. The product will likely be prepared for induction in the Armed Forces after two remaining trials, DRDO official Mahesh Sahu mentioned.

The DRDO has developed the multi-copter with a payload capability of 5 kg to 25 kg and is engaged on rising the capability as much as 30 kg, he mentioned.

The multi-copter can perform autonomous missions with waypoint navigation as much as a 5 km radius. It can journey to a chosen location in auto mode and launch payload and return to the house location, he mentioned.

It will also be used to drop a bomb at an enemy web site with none danger of human loss, the official mentioned.

Similarly, the payload UAV could be useful to drop medicines for troopers deployed at excessive altitudes or conflict zones, he mentioned.
