Aviation regulator DGCA on Tuesday suggested airways to formulate and prominently show on their web sites the coverage for carriage of pets.

A senior official on the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) stated the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has not but issued any Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs) or pointers with regard to carriage of pets in passenger compartment.

The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has permitted their airways to have their very own respective insurance policies for carriage of pets in cabin.

The aviation security regulators worldwide haven’t issued any particular coverage for carriage of pets inside cabin they usually have allowed airways to develop respective procedures for a similar.

In accordance with current norms, the official stated that airways are permitted to formulate their very own procedures for carriage of pets/stay animals within the cabin as the ultimate duty of security of flight is with the Pilot-In-Command of the flight.

“All airways are suggested to formulate and prominently show on their web sites coverage of carriage of pets for higher understanding of the passengers,” the official added.

The advisory is with respect to scheduled passenger flights.

In October last year, Akasa Air announced that it will allow domesticated dogs and cats in cabin as well as cargo.
