Iranian media mentioned the earthquake had a magnitude of 5.9 and hit Iran’s Western Azerbaijan province

An earthquake with a magnitude of as much as 5.9 struck the Turkey-Iran border area on Saturday, destroying homes in a provincial capital in Iran, Iranian media and the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported.

The earthquake killed at the least three folks and injured greater than 300.

”According to the preliminary observations of the Fars reporter, the quantity of destruction of homes and buildings within the metropolis of Khoy is comparatively excessive,” the semi-official information company Fars reported.

The quake had a magnitude of 5.6 and was at a depth of 10 km (6.2 miles), EMSC mentioned. Iranian media mentioned the earthquake had a magnitude of 5.9 and hit Iran’s Western Azerbaijan province.

Iranian emergency officers mentioned rescue groups have been despatched to the realm and hospitals have been placed on alert, state media mentioned.
