According to the custom of the clan, one of the paternal sisters of the clan has to drink a big amount of selfmade sesame oil through the annual pageant over a interval of three years

Sticking to the 62-year-old custom of the annual five-day-long truthful Khamdev Jatara held at Narnoor mandal headquarters in Adilabad district, a tribal girl drank two and a half kg of sesame oil for peace and prosperity.

The annual pageant is held on the day of the complete moon day within the month of Pushya, a sacred month of the Hindu calendar 12 months. Mesram Nagubai, from Koddepur village of Jivithi taluk in Chandrapur district of Maharashtra, the paternal sister of the Thodasam clan, began the annual pageant by ingesting a big amount of sesame oil. Later, the members of the temple committee felicitated her.

The members of the Thodasam clan worship Lord Kamdev as their household deity. According to the custom of the clan, one of the paternal sisters of the clan has to drink a big amount of selfmade sesame oil through the annual pageant over a interval of three years.

They imagine that carrying ahead the custom will present good produce to farmers and can deliver happiness and concord to the group. According to them, the custom started approach again in 1961. Since then, as many as 20 paternal sisters of the clan have fulfilled the custom efficiently. Now it’s the flip of Mesram Nagubai to fulfil the custom by ingesting sesame oil within the coming two years. Along with scores of devotees from Telangana and Maharashtra, Adilabad ZP chairman Rathod Janardhan, Asifabad MLA Atram Sakku took half within the occasion.

Speaking on the consequences of such practices on our bodies, Dr Rahul of Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Adilabad mentioned whereas it depends upon the stamina of the physique, ingesting an excessive amount of amount of oil or meals objects will present a unfavourable impression on one’s digestive system. “One can vomit by consuming an enormous amount of oil in a go,” he said, adding such consumption will also lead to health problems in future.
