The ruling BJP in Tripura on Monday urged the Election Commission to take motion towards these ballot officers who ‘defaced’ Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s pictures in banners and hoardings put up in public locations in the state as an alternative of eradicating them.

As the mannequin code of conduct has come into power in Tripura from January 21 the election officers are eradicating all hoardings, posters and flags of political events from public locations.

“In some areas, it was noticed that some ballot officers smeared black ink on the pictures of Prime Minister as an alternative of eradicating his pictures from public locations. We took up the problem with Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Gitte Kirankumar Dinakarrao and requested him to take motion towards the officers concerned in such acts”, said senior BJP leader and state Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ratan Lal Nath.

Nath was chatting with the media individuals after giving a illustration to the CEO.

He said the election officials could have removed the photographs of the prime minister from public places instead of smearing ink on the photographs of the PM.

“It’s shameful act by a section of poll officials. We want the Election Commission to investigate the matter and take appropriate steps against those involved in such activities”, he stated.

Nath stated the CEO will likely be holding a gathering of returning officers to look into the illustration given by the BJP.
