New Delhi (Agency). The strike by lawyers in Delhi’s district courts continued today against the order granting exemption to investigators from appearing in person before the courts, causing a widespread impact on judicial proceedings.
On Monday, lawyers not only staged an aggressive strike but also blocked passages inside court premises as a mark of protest. As a result, judicial work was severely disrupted.

On August 13, the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi issued an order exempting investigators from mandatory physical presence in courts, allowing them to appear via video conferencing instead.
In protest against this directive, district court lawyers have been on strike since last Saturday. Several lawyers’ associations, including the DBC, have extended support to the strike. Select lawyers and experts have also expressed their strong reactions on the matter, as follows:
Supreme Court Advocate Navesh Kumar stated that the government’s order would gravely affect the justice delivery process. From verifying the identity of investigators to effective cross-examination, several challenges will arise. Even the courts will face difficulties in assessing truthfulness. This would amount to a violation of the natural principles of justice.
Delhi High Court Advocate Anshu Kumari said that the government’s notification is completely irrational and violates the rule of law. The new system will not only affect justice but will also create multiple complications.
Renowned Chartered Accountant Sanjay Kumar Tiwari remarked that this move by the government will deprive victims of justice. It will increase the monopoly of investigators. According to him, through such orders, the government is attempting to impose an undeclared emergency.
